model-based recursive partitioning for survival of iranian female breast cancer patients: comparing with parametric survival models
نویسندگان
چکیده
background: precise diagnosis of disease risk factors via efficient statistical models is the primary step for reducing the heavy costs of breast cancer, as one of the most highly prevalent cancer throughout the world. therefore, the aim of this study was to present a recently introduced statistical model in order to assess its proficiency for model fitting. methods: the information of 1465 eligible iranian women with breast cancer was used for this retrospective cohort study. the statistical performances of exponential, weibull, log-logistic and lognormal, as the most proper parametric survival models, were evaluated and compared with 'model-based recursive partitioning' in order to survey their capability of more relevant risk factor detection. results: 'model-based recursive partitioning' recognized the largest number of significant affective risk factors, whereas, all four parametric models agreed and unable to detect the effectiveness of 'progesterone receptor' as an indicator; 'log-normal-based recursive partitioning' could provide the paramount fit. conclusion: the superiority of 'model-based recursive partitioning' was ascertained; not only by its excellent fitness but also by its susceptibility for classification of individuals to homogeneous severity levels and its impressive visual intuition potentiality.

متن کاملSurvival analysis of breast cancer patients with different chronic diseases through parametric and semi-parametric approaches
Introduction: There is a lack of information on the extent of dependency between chronic diseases and the survival rate of breast cancer. Until date, none of the models proposed has determined the impact of chronic diseases on breast cancer survival. This study, therefore, aimed to investigate the impacts of chronic diseases such as diabetes, blood pressure, and endocrine di...

متن کاملAnalyzing the Survival of Patients with Breast Cancer with a Multistate Model
Introduction: Breast cancer is the second most common cancer and one of the most common causes of death in women. Metastasis is also a challenge for breast cancer patients, affecting their survival. This study aimed to determine the survival rate and measure the factors affecting the progression of the disease from the time of diagnosis by considering metastasis as an intermediate condition usi...
متن کاملalternative for the cox regression model: using parametric models to analyze the survival of cancer patients
background: although the cox proportional hazard regression is the most popular model for analyzing the prognostic factors on survival of cancer patients, under certain circumstances, parametric models estimate the parameter more efficiently than the cox model. the aim of this study was to compare the cox regression model with parametric models in patients with gastric cancer who registered a...
متن کاملPartitioning of excess mortality in population-based cancer patient survival studies using flexible parametric survival models
BACKGROUND Relative survival is commonly used for studying survival of cancer patients as it captures both the direct and indirect contribution of a cancer diagnosis on mortality by comparing the observed survival of the patients to the expected survival in a comparable cancer-free population. However, existing methods do not allow estimation of the impact of isolated conditions (e.g., excess c...
